Drivers License Point System

For each conviction of a traffic violation or driving charge, in accordance with the Drivers License Point System, the court notifies the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) of the conviction and a certain amount of points is assessed to your driver’s license record. A conviction occurs when you plead guilty to a charge, are found guilty at trial, mail in a penalty assessment fine amount, or fail to appear in court, in some cases.

Point Assessments For Traffic Violations

The amount of points assessed under the Drivers License Point System against a person’s driver’s license for a conviction of traffic violation is determined by law, and point assessments for some common traffic charges are:
